Chris and Trish Vanderbijl took 28 years to grow their 35,000 tonnes of private forest  including four years  deciding on how and when to harvest it.

They were continually approached by Forest buyers, managers and Log Traders with proposals for harvesting and marketing their trees, conflicting information that ended up creating more confusion than certainty.

In the end they opted for a tender sales process through an entity which collectively bought in buyers to tender for the wood.

In a declining market the tender process faltered and the tendered stumpage prices fell well short of their reserve expectations. Again poor market advice and understanding coupled with a sale process prone to discounting and margin taking led to disappointment.

Ribbonwood NZ was able to provide a lifeline and eventually put together a sale offer close to what the VanderBijl’s wanted to achieve.
